Sorry, this course is not currently available on the website. The usual reason for this to happen is that the course is either no longer running or has already run. If you believe this to be incorrect please contact us using our enquiry form.

Below are a selection of courses that we are running, based on the subject of the course you were looking for:

  • Material Culture from Prehistory
The course will introduce you to the development of material culture studies in Prehistory with case studies from Ireland, Wessex and Wales; teaching sessions will be followed by a handling session of European Prehistoric artefacts in the Ashmolean Museum
  • The Archaeology of Myths and Religion in Ancient Greece
Hercules, the Minotaur and Troy were more than stories. They formed part of Ancient Greek religion. Join us to explore the best-known Greek myths through their archaeology in this visually rich course, which includes a session in the Ashmolean Museum.
  • Visualising the Past
This course will introduce students to the significance of visuality in archaeology. We consider the kinds of visual media created in the past and how archaeologists and artists create visual media in the present in order to engage with the past
  • The Black Death: Crises and Consequences
The Black Death (1348/9) originated in the Far East and spread rapidly to Europe, where it killed between one third and one half of the population. In this course we will examine the immediate and long term consequences of the pestilence.
  • Ritual and Religion in Prehistory (Online)
How can we begin to understand the spiritual lives of prehistoric people? When do religious ideologies first appear on the human evolutionary timescale? Using both anthropology and archaeological evidence these and many other questions are examined.
