  • The Origins of Towns: early medieval Britain and the North Sea World
    The early medieval period witnessed the origins of Britain's urban landscape. This 10-week course investigates the impact of these developments, which are are best understood in their broader European context, on Britain's early medieval inhabitants.
  • Archaeology in Practice
    How do archaeologists recognise and interpret the lives of past peoples and their societies? An introduction to the methods and techniques of archaeological enquiry, from initial site survey and excavation to scientific analysis.
  • From Viking Camps to Saxon Assemblies:
    This weekend conference considers the sites and settlements of medieval Europe that were used for brief or recurrent episodes, such as military camps, assembly sites, markets and fairs, sites associated with transhumance and temporary refuges
  • The Fall of Rome (Online)
    An introduction to various aspects of the intriguing history, vibrant culture and fascinating personalities of Ancient Rome and its enemies during its ‘decline and fall’ (or 'transformation') in the last two centuries of the Empire in the West.
  • How Old is that House?
    This course introduces students to the methods used when dating vernacular houses. Based both in class and in the field we will focus on the architecture which guides the interpretation of “period” buildings.
