  • The Origins of Towns: early medieval Britain and the North Sea World
    The early medieval period witnessed the origins of Britain's urban landscape. This 10-week course investigates the impact of these developments, which are are best understood in their broader European context, on Britain's early medieval inhabitants.
  • Living in Bronze Age Britain
    Great technological change from 2500 to 700 BC saw increasing use of metal; weapons included. Agriculture brought widespread fields & farms. Transport improved by land & water. Social habits changed with new burial rites, monuments – and burnt mounds
  • Palladio and Palladianism
    To learn about this famous 16th century Italian architect and his impact on British architecture in the 17th and 18th centuries.
  • Material Culture of Roman Britain
    This course is an introduction to the material world of Roman Britain where fashion, status and wealth were displayed in a vibrant array of material objects, new techonology and built structures.
  • The Mick Aston Landscapes of Monasticism Lecture
    OUDCE is sponsoring an annual lecture on landscape archaeology in memory of Mick Aston, who died in 2013. Mick was tutor in local studies in the Department for Continuing Education before moving to Bristol University as Staff Tutor in Archaeology.
