About the Department - Structure of the Department
The Public and International Programmes (PIP) division of Continuing Education offers a wide range of courses for the public -- locally, nationally and internationally. High quality part-time courses are provided at different academic levels and designed with the needs of adult students in mind. There are seven offerings:
Weekly classes
These are 10 or 20 weeks in duration, are held in the day or the evening, in Oxford and in surrounding areas. Open to all. Students undertake some coursework.

Online courses
These are 5, 10 or 20 weeks in duration, are offered online and worldwide, in a range of subjects. Open to all. Students undertake some coursework.

Day and weekend schools
These one to three-day short courses are held usually on Saturdays and weekends in Oxford, and allow students to catch up with the latest thinking in a wide range of subjects from a variety of speakers. No coursework is required from students. Accommodation is available for those attending from a distance. Open to all. See Day or Evening Classes search results.
Oxford University Summer Schools
These courses are offered in various topics, last for one to four weeks and require attendance in Oxford. The seminar groups are limited in size in order to allow an intensive and rewarding degree of interaction with tutors and fellow students. There is accommodation available. Students undertake some coursework on most programmes. Students undertake some coursework. See the summer schools pages.

Undergraduate Certificate, Diploma and Advanced Diploma Programmes
The majority of these programmes are one or two-years part-time (plus a few full-time courses) which lead to an award from Oxford University. Acceptance onto a course is subject to admissions criteria. See the Oxford Qualifications - Full-time search results.
Postgraduate Certificate, Diploma and Degree Programmes
These part-time courses, leading to an award from Oxford University. They include both taught Master's Degrees and D.Phil Degrees. Acceptance onto a course is subject to admissions criteria.

Programmes designed for the international community
Programmes designed specifically for the international community include three full-time courses that extend over an academic year, and one part-time course which lasts two years.
- British and European Studies (Language and Society)
- Foreign Service Programme
- Foundations of Diplomacy
- Masters in International Human Rights Law (part-time)
Short courses in Leadership and Public Policy are tailor-made courses designed on request for particular educational institutions and for national and regional governments from overseas. Please contact our international programmes office at ip@conted.ox.ac.uk for more information.
