No previous knowledge is required; just a brain and the desire to know how it works.

Description

This is the tenth in the popular series of annual Oxford Brain Days. To ensure an duly sensational event the day will be devoted to various aspects of the sensing brain.

Experts in the field will describe the way in which new lines of research and new investigative techniques are leading to novel insights into brain function and its relation to the senses. Three presentations will consider the role and function of the brain in relation to hearing, seeing and touching. How do we make sense of the sounds our ears receive? How do we interpret the visual information flooding into our eyes and what really happens when we have the sense of touching or being touched? In addition to these considerations of externally generated sensations consideration will also be given to our internal sense of guilt and its possible relationship to depression. This rich event is aimed at the general public and open to all. No previous knowledge is required; just a brain and the desire to know how it works and what it does!
