  • Utopias and Dystopias in English Literature
    Through seminar discussions we will address the origins of the Utopian genre, its developments in the 20th century and the degree to which the genre is a means of commenting upon the present as much as it is a way of speculating about the future.
  • Jane Austen (Online)
    Many readers enjoy Austen’s novels but cannot define the qualities that make them so special and enduring. This course will help you to analyse Austen’s style and techniques, and will enhance your understanding and enjoyment of reading them.
  • Shakespeare: English History Plays 1st Tetralogy (Part 2)
    Shakespeare wrote eight plays concerned with the period 1398 – 1485, from the impending fall of Richard II to the Battle of Bosworth, the death of Richard III and the accession of the first Tudor monarch Henry VII. We shall study Henry VI and Richard III.
  • Nineteenth Century European Literature (Online)
    This course is for anyone who is interested in nineteenth-century literature and society, and will also appeal to anyone who would like to gain a greater sense of how literature transformed throughout the nineteenth century.
  • 1914 - 2014: One Hundred Years of War in Literature
    This creative writing course is an opportunity to consider the impact conflict has had upon individuals around the world over the last century, and the ways in which it still reverberates through lives many years after the events.
