Overview

This course will present students with the key skills needed to plan, write and edit original drama scripts for stage and radio. Each intensive day will include a mix of taught sessions, discussion, small group and individual planning and writing activities, and the sharing of work and ideas. It will challenge students to extend their script writing skills and ambitions, but will do so in a supportive and focused atmosphere.

The content of the course will benefit writers who already have an idea they want to develop into a drama, as well as those who want help and support
in finding a story to tell. It will provide essential skills for writers wishing to enter professional theatre and media as dramatists, as well as those who want
to write a script but are not yet sure if they want to enter the world of stage and radio production.

There will be close reading and discussion of extracts from classic and recently produced stage plays and broadcast radio scripts. Time to explore ideas for individual writing will be included, but will be focused on students’ deploying key skills under specific instructions.

Please note that this course will cover a lot of skills and techniques through a wide range of activities. It can not offer criticism of scripts already partially written.

This course is accredited with 10 CATS Points at FHEQ Level 4. All students enrolled on this course will be expected to complete some course work.
