This course will introduce participants to the range of Old English literature, from stirring tales of heroism, courage, and fellowship, to poignant elegies of love and loss; from passionately devout to earthily humorous.

- The Country-House Novel
Life in a large country house is of enduring fascination. This course will explore that fascination through the depictions of country house life found in the novels of authors as diverse as Jane Austen, Wilkie Collins and Evelyn Waugh.
- Utopias and Dystopias in English Literature
Through seminar discussions we will address the origins of the Utopian genre, its developments in the 20th century and the degree to which the genre is a means of commenting upon the present as much as it is a way of speculating about the future.
