Mansfield Park was the third of Jane Austen’s novels to be published, in 1814, and the first of her ‘Chawton’ novels. After 200 years it remains Austen’s most controversial novel.
- Literary Theory: An Introduction (Online)
Although literary theory might sometimes seem intimidating, it can be very accessible and exciting. This course aims to demystify literary theory, showing how it illuminates literary texts and enriches our understanding and enjoyment of literature.

- Poetry of the First World War
From the carnage and loss of the First World War came a great creative outburst of poetry as soldiers tried to make some sense of their experience. The course will look at a range of work by these poets of the First World War.
- Shakespeare’s London through Different Eyes
A study of London life in Shakespeare’s day; looking at the everyday life of its many citizens, rich and poor, respectable and nefarious, focusing on the evidence for this in the other arts of the time.
