Overview

The course is for students who have already completed at least two progressive stages of French, and want to improve and consolidate the skills acquired to help them cope with a variety of social situations. The aim of the class is to give students greater confidence and fluency in dealing with everyday social situations in French.

Course aims

The course is for students who have already completed at least two progressive stages of French, and want to improve and consolidate the skills acquired to help them cope with a variety of social situations. The aim of the class is to give students greater confidence and fluency in dealing with everyday social situations in French.

Assessment methods

Assessments will be implemented through a series of communicative activities ranging from guided role-plays and structured pair-work to less structured dialogues and open group discussions.

Teaching methods

The course aims to help students become more confident and fluent speakers. The main focus is therefore on developing speaking and listening skills through a variety of activities in the target language, carried out in a friendly atmosphere.

Teaching outcomes

The following are brief indicators of what students should be able to do in each of the skills by the end of the course: Speaking (S), Listening (L), Reading (R)

S - participate in and communicate on a range of situations and topics
L - understand well topics relating to simple situations and at least get the gist of more difficult ones
R - read simple texts without the help of a dictionary

All language courses will be offered for a third term, commencing in April 2013. Enrolled students who wish to sign up for the third term will receive a discount of £45.00 to the full fee if they do so before December 1 2012. The full cost of the third term is £125.00; the reduced price is £80.00.
