Overview

Between 1936 and 1938 some 2500 British volunteers fought with the International Brigades in the Spanish Civil War, defending the elected government of the Second Republic against Franco’s rebel forces. This day school will present new research on the volunteers: who they were, why they went to Spain, what they achieved there and how they have been remembered.
