  The two-year part-time Foundation Certificate in History is equivalent to the first year of a three year degree course in History. Students who complete it can apply for second-year entry to the undergraduate degree course at the University of Oxford.
• The Reign of Edward III
  Edward III was widely revered as the pre-eminent chivalric king in Western Christendom. Yet his reign started with the deposition and murder of his father, Edward II. How did Edward III restore the authority of the monarchy so successfully?
• Byzantium and its Neighbours
  Using documentary sources, the course will examine the diplomatic, military, ecclesiastical, trade and cultural relations between the Byzantine Empire and its neighbours from the 4th to the 15th century.
• Britain and the Euoprean Union: Past, present and uncertain future?
  Ever since Britain's admission to the EEC in 1973, its relationship with the EEC/EU has never been far from the centre of British political debate.
• The Early Stuarts
  This course will examine the reigns of the early Stuart monarchs James I and Charles I, tracking the processes by which their subjects became so alienated from the crown that they ended up executing their monarch.
