Overview

This day school will introduce you to ancient Rome from its origins to the early fourth century AD. You will be able to explore how Rome evolved from an urban metropolis to an imperial capital and discover how the key public buildings in Rome reflect the city’s changing character through time. You will have an opportunity to examine some of the key public structures in Rome, including the Forum, the Imperial Fora, the Colosseum and the Pantheon, and learn about some of the ‘messages’ these structures were designed to communicate. You will also be able to explore the ‘living city’ and discover how it was more than just an arena for political display, but a real city in which ordinary people lived, worked and died. Finally, you will be able to consider the end of Rome as an imperial capital and the birth of a ‘new’ Christian Rome.
