    This course examines the issue of determinism and the extent to which the will can be said to be free. The subject is considered from moral, religious, epistemological and scientific perspectives, and looks at the implications for these disciplines.

    The course will be dealing with many of the pressing ethical issues that concern us in the modern world. Should there be human enhancement? Are there just wars? Should euthanasia be legal and other important questions.

    Walter Benjamin is one of the most fascinating intellectual figures of the twentieth century. This course will consider his cultural criticism, politics, philosophy of history, theory of art, analysis of modern urban life – and more!
  • The Philosophy of Gottfried Leibniz
    Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz (1646–1716) was one of the greatest thinkers of the 17th and 18th centuries.
  • The Meaning of Life
    What do we mean when we talk about the meaning of life? Is your life meaningless if God doesn't exist? Is it up to you what meaning to give to your life or are there more objective standards? What sort of life have philosophers considered meaningful?
