Hume places the passions (emotions) at the centre of his moral philosophy. We will examine Hume's moral theory in depth, looking closely at his account of the passions, his notion of sympathy and his conception of character. - Political Philosophy: An Introduction (Online)
Political philosophy contains some of the greatest writings in the western intellectual tradition. This online course introduces the student to the central questions concerning, the state by means of classical and contemporary texts. - Concept of the Self
What is the self? While a sense of self is given to us in experience, what it is that is "given" raises questions that are not easily answered. Exploring a range of philosophical perspectives, we will develop our own views. - Introduction to Continental Philosophy
This introductory course is an opportunity to study a range of post-Kantian philosophical movements and figures. Among traditions explored wil be existentialism, phenomenology, hermeneutics, critical theory, postmodernism and poststructuralism. - Introduction to Political Philosophy
We explore and compare the leading theories of political philosophy. These ideas are then applied to a range of pressing issues including wealth redistribution, third world aid, threats to mankind's survival, punishment, war & terrorism.
