Sorry, this course is not currently available on the website. The usual reason for this to happen is that the course is either no longer running or has already run. If you believe this to be incorrect please contact us using our enquiry form.

Below are a selection of courses that we are running, based on the subject of the course you were looking for:

  • Philosophy of Science (Online)
This course introduces key issues in the philosophy of science, including debates about the nature of the scientific method, theories of confirmation, the demarcation of science from non-science, the rationality of theory change, and scientific realism.
  • Philosophy and Political Action
Should political leaders violate moral constraints for a great good, or to avoid great catastrophe? How should a just state distribute its goods? How much economic inequality is morally acceptable? Come and think about these problems during this weekend.
  • Heidegger and Sartre
If we want to work out the meaning of life, why not start with our own experience of being alive rather than with scientific theories or abstract arguments? Heidegger and Sartre started their thinking in this way and this course explores their results.
  • Theory of Knowledge (Online)
The theory of knowledge is one of the most central areas of philosophy. In this online course students will cover the key issues in epistemology while also learning to think for themselves and develop their own answers to the core questions in this area.
  • The Philosophy of Necessity and Possibility
Some propositions, eg 2+2 = 4 are necessarily true (or false) and eg Paris is in France, are contingently true (or false). But what is this difference? What determines possibility & necessity? Might you have been a hippo? How can we tell? Come & find out!
