  This is a practical course for those interested in composing music of any genre and will concentrate upon the skills common to all composition, focussing this term on writing for the voice and using texts.
• Romanticism in Music
  The Romantic period gave rise to turbulent emotional music, including many of the best loved works in the repertoire. This course will chart the progress of the Romantic impulse through 19th century music.
• The Elements of Musical Composition
  This is a practical course for those interested in composing music of any genre and will concentrate upon the skills common to all composition, focussing this term on melody construction, basic harmony and rhythm.
• A Guide to Music
  Nearly ten centuries of music in a bewildering variety of period styles and national traditions are now available both in performance and on recordings. This course introduces the basic concepts that underlie music.
