    This course will explore the development of film music from the so-called "silent" days (which, in fact were anything but silent in musical terms), through the Golden Age of Hollywood.
  • Vienna and the Classical Style - Beethoven and Schubert
    The later classical period in music saw momentous changes in musical styles and genres. This course will focus on the final two decades of this period in Vienna, concentrating particularly on the contributions made by Beethoven and Schubert.
  • Scandal in Paris: Stravinsky, the Rite and the Birth of Modernism
    Using music and film, this course tells the amazing story of the legendary first performance of Stravinsky’s modernist milestone ‘The Rite of Spring’ in Paris, 1913 and its aftermath.
  • Schubert`s Vienna
    This lecture series will look at the culture, society and politics that surrounded Schubert for his thirty-one years as a citizen of this this great city. In association with the Oxford Lieder Festival
  • The Beatles, Popular Music and Sixties Britain
    Learn how the Beatles made their music, and trace its development from simple first recordings to the multi-track Abbey Road. Their music is contextualized with songs by other British groups of the period, poetry, journalism, and key events.
