- The Pianists` Workshop III
A practical class open to players of all levels. Piano technique, repertoire and interpretation will be explored in the context of workshops in which all students will have regular opportunities to play. Students may join this class in any term.
- Edward Elgar – The Man and His Music
The music of Edward Elgar is the product of a highly romantic nature at odds with the social conventions of Edwardian Britain. We will trace his life and study key works, including Enigma Variations, Sea Pictures, and the Cello Concerto.
- The Songs of Franz Schubert
This day school will explore his songs in depth, looking at Schubert’s approach to his texts and the characteristics of his writing for both voice and piano.
- Scandal in Paris: Stravinsky, the Rite and the Birth of Modernism
Using music and film, this course tells the amazing story of the legendary first performance of Stravinsky’s modernist milestone ‘The Rite of Spring’ in Paris, 1913 and its aftermath.
- Vienna and the Classical Style - Beethoven and Schubert
The later classical period in music saw momentous changes in musical styles and genres. This course will focus on the final two decades of this period in Vienna, concentrating particularly on the contributions made by Beethoven and Schubert.
