About the Graduate School - Facilities for postgraduate students
Graduate Students studying at Continuing Education have access to a wide range of study, social and sporting facilities within the Department, University and their individual colleges.
At Rewley House, students have access to the library, computer resource room, common-room, bar and dining-room. The building is open to non-residents from 9.00 am in the morning until 10.30 pm in the evening throughout the year except during the Christmas and New Year period.
Residential accommodation is available overnight and for short periods. Lunch, dinner and bed and breakfast can be prebooked at the reception desk or email res-ctr@conted.ox.ac.uk or telephone 01865 270362.
A postgraduate common-room with study area and locker space will be opened during the course of 2011-12.
A programme of research seminars and dinners, together with drinks receptions and other events is organised by the Graduate School. Attending these events will enable you to meet and get to know academic staff and part-time students from Continuing Education.
Within the University, students are able to use the libraries, reading rooms and other facilities of the Bodleian Libraries Group and to take advantage of research provision within the University museums. You can use the social and sporting facilities of the University Club and there are extensive sports facilities at the Iffley Road Sports complex, the Marston Road sports grounds and in University Parks. Additional facilities, including libraries, laboratories and common-rooms are provided by individual academic faculties and departments.
All colleges and private halls have their own libraries, study spaces, common rooms, bars and dining halls and sporting and social facilities. They are also able to offer long-term and short-term residential accommodation for graduate students. The main focus of graduate life in individual colleges is the Middle Common Room (MCR). The term covers both the community of graduate students within the college and the physical space allocated for their use. The MCR usually offers facilities such as a kitchen, tv, computers, games and sports equipment and organises a termly programme of events. Colleges provide both a useful place to retreat to study and an opportunity to experience the academic and social life of Oxford. Attending events organised by your college and MCR will enable you to meet a diverse range of fellows and students and to engage with academic subjects beyond your own discipline.
