Below are a selection of courses that we are running, based on the subject of the course you were looking for:

  • The Haydn String Quartets
Haydn's String Quartets laid the foundations for one of western music's greatest instrumental genres, directly influencing the quartets of both Mozart and Beethoven. This day school explores the development of Haydns quartet writing throughout his life.
  • The Passions & Oratorios of J.S. Bach
A Day School in which Dr Richard Jones shows how Bach, whilst adhering to the liturgical oratorio-Passion genre, was strongly influenced by the theatrical Passion-oratorio genre developed in Hamburg, with its dialogue and responsorial forms.
  • The Countertenor
The countertenor voice has undergone a renaissance in recent decades, fuelled by the renewed interest in Baroque opera and the astonishing vocal accomplishments of the castrati. Explore the mechanics and repertoire of the countertenor voice.
  • Afro-Caribbean Music: Salsa, Calypso and Reggae
Presented by one of the UKs most highly respected bass players, this course will attempt to explain the development of Afro-Caribbean Music, provide some listening strategies, and survey the styles of Salsa, Calypso and Reggae.
  • Whats so special about Chopin?
Chopin is one of the best-loved composers but what exactly is it that makes his music special? In this day school we will seek to identify those elements of his music that make it so compelling and so utterly distinctive.
