DPhil in English Local History
Taking the measure: studies in the socio-economic and demographic history of non-metropolitan Surrey's population, c. 1550-1750
I combine research for the DPhil with work as an administrator in the family firm. Previously I completed the MSc in English Local History and Postgraduate Certificate in Historical Studies, both at Oxford’s Continuing Education Department. My interest in local history was kindled by an adult education course in palaeography, following which I took Surrey University’s BA in English Local History. During that time I worked as a Learning Support Assistant at a comprehensive school. Previously, before a career break, I worked at the Transport and Road Research Lab., including forecasting the local impact of transport improvements such as the M25. I graduated with an MA in Maths from Cambridge in 1975.
