Student representation

Student representatives are valued members of course and Departmental committees, and of the Student Union's Student Council. Find out how you can represent your fellow students below.

Course committees

Every award-bearing course is encouraged to appoint a student representative to its course committee from amongst its student body, normally for the academic year. If you are interested in this role, please speak with your Course Administrator.

Departmental committees, Continuing Education Strategic Management Board and Student Union

In addition to course committees, student representatives are appointed to the following:

  • Academic Board (AB)
  • Assessment and Teaching Committee (ATC)
  • Committee on Library Provision and Strategy (CliPS)
  • Continuing Education Strategic Management Board (CESMB) [1]
  • Digital Education Group (DEG)
  • Graduate Studies Committee (GSC)
  • Student-Staff Committee (SSC) [2]
  • Student Council of the Student Union (SC) [3]

Some student representatives on course committees may also serve on Departmental committees. Between them these cover a great span of the Department’s activities, including teaching and learning support through technology, library provision, graduate training, new course development, and academic policy, as well as University projects and consultation exercises.

To express your interest, please contact us at the relevant email address below. Where there is more than one vacancy on a committee, we strive for representation from different award levels and subject areas. Committee meetings are held during working hours, and take place once or twice per term.

Notes:

[1] A Sabbatical Officer of the Student Union (normally a Vice President) acts as Student Representative for the Continuing Education Strategic Management Board.

[2] All representatives on departmental and course committees are automatically members of the Student-Staff committee.

[3] Two ‘Divisional Representatives’ for OUDCE students may be appointed to the Student Council of the Student Union (one from a matriculated course, and the other from a non-matriculated award-bearing course).
