The University is seeking to appoint a University Lecturer in Political Economy in the Department for Continuing Education from 1 October 2012 or as soon as possible thereafter. The post holder will benefit from an Official (Governing Body) Fellowship at Kellogg College, and would be an associate member of the Department of Economics.
The successful candidate must have a proven high standard of research and teaching in economics and be capable of providing academic leadership and undertaking graduate supervision. An appointment is sought in any area of political economy, although there will be a preference for those with expertise in the economics of developing countries. Interest, enthusiasm and expertise in online teaching and development would be essential.
A key responsibility of the post holder would be to oversee the Department for Continuing Education’s offerings in the area of economics, including developing and expanding the highly successful online courses in the broad field of economics, as well as overseeing the Department’s open access weekly class programme. The post holder would be expected to contribute to teaching on Master’s degrees, depending on their areas of expertise.
It is planned to hold interviews on Friday 15 June 2012.

The University is seeking to appoint a part-time (0.5 FTE) University Lecturer in 18th to early 20th century British History from 1 October 2012 or as soon as possible thereafter. The post holder will benefit from a Fellowship at Kellogg College. The combined college and University salary for this post will be on a scale from £42,883 - £57,581 p.a. pro rata.
The successful candidate must have a proven high standard of research and teaching in an area of 18th century to early 20th century British History. Strong preference will be given to those with expertise in the British Empire, international relations, or the international economic history of the period. They will be capable of providing academic leadership and undertaking graduate supervision.
A key responsibility of the post holder would be to co-direct and teach on the Master’s in Literature and Arts. The 18th - early 20th centuries is one of the two main periods of focus of this interdisciplinary degree, of which a major intellectual theme is the historical transmission and interaction of global cultures and how they have shaped British cultural attitudes and values.

The Department is looking to recruit a qualified accountant or equivalent for a fixed term of six months, in order to provide cover for the Financial Controller while he is involved in major project work. The post holder will be responsible for the Department’s year end accounts (the University’s financial year-end is 31 July), and also monthly reporting to management and budget holders. A key area of the financial monitoring is the month end process, including reconciliations, preparation of reports and variance analysis.
Non-routine work will include assisting the Financial Controller in costing, financial appraisal and modelling of new and existing activities.
The successful candidate will assist in the management of the Department’s Finance Team (there are four people who report to the Financial Controller). The post holder will report to the Financial Controller and the Director of Finance & Administration.
The successful candidate will be highly literate and numerate, will be willing to accept responsibility, and have an ability to learn new tasks and systems. S/he will have good communication skills, organisation skills and problem solving skills, a good knowledge of spreadsheets, and have experience in the use of financial ledger systems. Experience of work in a finance role in the University of Oxford would be desirable but not essential.

The Department is looking to recruit a Finance Officer to join its busy Finance team. The post holder will be responsible for the accounting and reporting of the Department’s research grants, and will assist in the budgeting, forecasting and financial monitoring of the Department. A key area of the financial monitoring is the month end process, including reconciliations, preparation of reports and variance analysis, and monitoring and follow-up of debtors.
The successful candidate will be highly literate and numerate, will be a part-qualified accountant or equivalent, will be willing to accept responsibility, and have an ability to learn new tasks and systems. S/he will have good problem solving skills, a good knowledge of spreadsheets, and have experience in the use of financial ledger systems.
