Study with Oxford from anywhere in the world.
Our accredited short online courses are offered in the following two formats:
Flexible online courses: these have no live-time meetings so you can study when it suits you.
Live-time weekly classes: these have scheduled, live-time online meetings to attend.
Both formats are taught at undergraduate level, require coursework and may be studied for credit.
Our short, flexible online courses take place in a virtual learning environment and are run asynchronously – meaning there are no live-time meetings and you do not have to be online at any specific time to take the course.
The modular format of each course offers you the time to study at your own pace, while keeping to a weekly schedule.
Interaction between you and your classmates and tutor takes place in online text-based forums, where you will engage in in-depth discussions and receive personalised tutor guidance and feedback.
Sample units from online courses are available to view from the course demonstration site.
Our Weekly Oxford Worldwide (WOW) programme of live-time courses, based on our in-Oxford weekly classes, are taught completely online and have scheduled, live-time meetings to attend. Live-time discussion and Q&A take place via an online platform. Additionally, some courses may have recorded lectures to enjoy.
Each WOW course has 6, 11 or 21 meetings, which includes an introductory meeting to introduce you to the online platform.
Credit and the Certificate of Higher Education
Coursework is an integral part of all our short online courses. Everyone enrolled will be expected to do coursework, but only those who have registered for credit will be awarded CATS points for completing work at the required standard. Please refer to our CATS Points System guidelines to find out more about CATS points and how to register for credit.
Credit earned from our short flexible online courses and WOW classes is transferable towards our award programme, the Certificate of Higher Education.
