Annual colloquium discussing research ethics

For postgraduate students and those working in higher education

The Department for Continuing Education will host its second annual Research Ethics Colloquium on Friday 13 June 2025. The colloquium is a forum for higher education administrators, academics and postgraduate students to share their perspectives on and experiences of current research ethics issues, with emphasis on the everchanging landscape of AI in lifelong learning. 

The event is open to those both within and outside of the University of Oxford with an interest in research ethics within academia.

Please note that the colloquium is not aimed at undergraduate students.

Attendance options

Online attendance for non-students external to Oxford University

If you are not currently a postgraduate student in full or part-time higher education and are also not affiliated with the University of Oxford, you can book to attend the colloquium online by clicking on the green 'book now' button above.

The fee of £100 is payable on booking. 

The deadline for registration is 23:59 UK time on Sunday 8 June 2025.

In-person attendance and discounted fees

Tentative schedule

A tentative programme is outlined below, though all sessions are subject to finalisation. 

Posters are available to view throughout the day, with a Q&A planned to take place just before the lunch break. 

10:00-10:15: Welcome

10:15-11:15: Keynote

11:15-11:30: Break (tea and refreshments)

11:30-12:30: Strand 1: Three papers plus 10-minute discussion each, or 90-minute workshop, or student-centred debate (subject to confirmation)

12:30-13:00: Posters Q&A (hosted in-person and online)

13:00-14:00: Buffet lunch, tea and refreshments. Informal poster Q&A follow-up

14:00-15:30:

  • Strand 2: Three papers plus 10-minute discussion each or 90-minute workshop
  • Strand 3: Three papers plus 10-minute discussion each or 90-minute workshop

15:30-15:45: Break (tea and refreshments)

15:45-17:15:

  • Strand 4: Three papers plus 10-minute discussion each or 90-minute workshop
  • Strand 5: Three papers plus 10-minute discussion each or 90-minute workshop

17:15-17:30 Wrap up and survey

This event does not qualify for any form of certification.

Funding

Internal delegates: Free
Individual associated with the University of Oxford (postgraduate student, administrator, academic, other staff member).

External students: £50.00
Individual with postgraduate student status at a university other than the University of Oxford.

IT requirements

For those joining us online

We will be using Microsoft Teams for the livestreaming of this event. Joining instructions will be sent out prior to the start date. We recommend that you join the session at least 5-10 minutes prior to the start time – just as you might arrive a bit early at our lecture theatre for an in-person event.
