Supporting postgraduate study
The Graduate School facilitates a stimulating and enriching learning and research environment for both internal and external graduate students. Our programme of research skills training and researcher development activities is designed to help students conduct their research whilst facilitating them to becoming independent researchers.
- Training sessions and events for Oxford Uni students
- Short courses and training sessions open to all
As a graduate student at the University of Oxford you become a member of one of the most highly regarded educational and research institutions in the world. The Graduate School will help you make the most of the wealth of resources and opportunities available, drawing on our extensive experience in supporting graduate study.
Although primarily intended for research students, sessions are open to postgraduate taught students where the content is considered appropriate. Postgraduate students at the University outside of the Department are also welcome to attend any of our sessions to complement their own divisional or departmental research training programmes.
See our Graduate School training events to explore and register for upcoming sessions.
Additional training is also available through other departments, divisions and services around the University such as the IT Learning Centre and the Bodleian Library. Through the IT Learning Centre you also have access to a huge library of online and video based courses provided through LinkedIn Learning.
We also run training sessions and courses open to external students, research fellows and postgrads.
Accredited short courses
The following short courses can be taken for credit and discounted rates are available for students.
- The secret life of research interviewing (SLoRI)
- Mixing it up: understanding and using mixed methods research in social sciences
- Digital ethnography
If a course is closed to new enrolments, please sign up to the waiting list or email email@example.com to be notified when the next run of the course is announced.
New research skills training sessions
In line with the Department's mission and values, our goal is to broaden access to researcher training by enabling and encouraging participation from those outside the University.
To assess interest and demand, we are offering an initial suite of three research skills sessions in March and April 2024, at subsidised fee rates, for which we are inviting external applications.
