Master's in Literature and Arts students produce volume of essays
Students on the Department's Master's in Literature and Arts programme have produced a free volume of interdisciplinary essays as part of their work on the course.
The essays, which reflect on primary sources as diverse as opium pipes, banqueting halls, George Bernard Shaw on Wagner, eighteenth-century grottoes, chartist banners and Shakespeare's Venus and Adonis, are gathered in a collection called Vides. It's the first of what will become a yearly publication. The volume is freely available in pdf format to anyone who wishes to view or download it.
The Master's in Literature and Arts is an interdisciplinary part-time programme which explores British culture from the Late Middle Ages to the beginning of the twentieth century through the study of Literature, Art, Philosophy and History. It began in 2011 and the first cohort has recently completed Vides as an element of the course which reflects its innovative approach.
The students have each written an essay exploring a topic through the analysis and comparison of two textual or visual documents connected to it. Together they have then peer reviewed, proof-read, copy-edited and designed the journal. The word Vides means 'you see' but is also an acronym for 'Volume of Interdisciplinary Essays'.
You can now view and enjoy the extraordinary range of the subjects the group have chosen by clicking on the link for Vides on the Master's in Literature and Art course description webpage. Please see: www.conted.ox.ac.uk/mla
