NERC funding awarded to the Department for training in Insect Taxonomy

The Department has once again been awarded funding by the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) to deliver and build upon training in the environmental sciences and management, following the success of the Department's NERC-funded workshops in previous years.

This year's award of over £40,000 will be used to provide training for 20 doctoral students/graduates/research scientists and professionals in Insect Taxonomy and Field Sampling Skills. The course is offered to eligible delegates at no cost, with accommodation and course materials (including an identification text book and a starter kit of essential equipment for sample collection and preservation) also provided.

Having been identified as a priority training area in the environmental sciences by NERC, these workshops in Taxonomy help delegates gain practical experience of field identification and surveying methods, in order to generate more reliable environmental data.

The workshop will run from 5-9 March 2018 at the Department for Continuing Education and at the Oxford University Museum of Natural History. The priority application deadline for NERC-funded doctoral students closes on 31 July 2017. After this deadline, we will welcome other doctoral students, graduates, research scientists and professionals to register on a first-come, first-served basis.

Applicants will need to register via the Insect Taxonomy and Field Sampling Skills page.
