Biography

Charles Boyle is Assistant Director of the Department with responsibility for Professional and Open Access courses. His remit encompasses professional development courses in business and management, and technology and AI, as well as the Department’s summer school programme, day and weekend events, short bespoke courses, and the Foundations of Diplomacy pre-Master’s course.

Charles works closely with OUP on the Oxford Teachers’ Academy programme for English language teachers, the Oxford Test of English and the Oxford International Curriculum Assessments.

He has taught English to international students, trained language teachers, and has presented on course design and language testing at international conferences worldwide. He has authored a number of books and online materials for the award-winning Campaign, English for the Military series (Macmillan, 2005, 2006). He is the co-author of English for Law Enforcement (Macmillan, 2009) winner of the David Riley Award for Innovation in Business English and ESP.

He has lived and worked in Hungary, Sweden, Switzerland, Russia and the Middle East and has carried out consultancies on behalf of the UK Ministry of Defence, the FCO, the British Council, and NATO.

He is a Fellow of Kellogg College and of the UK Higher Education Academy.
