Adeboye Saka
Student spotlight details
Adeboye's career in project management and voluntary work in data analysis led him to enrol in the Advanced Diploma in IT Systems Analysis and Design to gain more comprehensive foundational knowledge.
'My name is Adeboye Saka, and I hail from Lagos, Nigeria. I have resided in the United Kingdom for the past twenty years, during which I have cultivated a career in project management with a specialization in road network transformation initiatives. In addition to my professional commitments, I contribute as a Senior Data Analyst for a charitable organization in London.
'My interest in information technology was ignited at an early age, influenced by my curiosity about my father's typewriter. Over the years, I engaged in various courses and certifications in Data Analysis, yet I recognized the necessity of a more comprehensive educational foundation. I was particularly attracted to the University of Oxford due to its esteemed reputation and the Advanced Diploma in IT Systems Analysis and Design, which aligns seamlessly with my aspiration to enhance my expertise in this discipline.
The program is structured to emphasize individual study, necessitating our commitment and focus. I didn’t recognize this at first and initially, the aspect of the program I found most challenging was the limited opportunities for student interaction compared to those experienced by on-campus students. There are designated platforms for virtual engagement that are primarily utilized for academic purposes but do not foster substantial interaction among students. However, I later recognized how the program was structured.
'The most rewarding and enjoyable experiences included receiving recognition for my commitment and professionalism. I was honoured to be appointed as the Student Representative for my cohort (2023-2024) and was selected to serve as the Project Lead for our final project report submission. These responsibilities afforded me the opportunity to significantly contribute to my team and were among the highlights of my time at Oxford.
'The course has already begun to influence both my personal and professional development. It has enhanced my analytical thinking capabilities, instilled best practices, and motivated me to pursue my goals with a constructive and disciplined approach. I am confident that these attributes will manifest positively in my career trajectory, whether as an employee or as a forthcoming business leader.
‘I have embarked on a three-month course in Data Analysis and Machine Learning, while also exploring additional short courses. The possibility of enrolling in an online master’s degree remains a consideration for my future.
'If you possess the capacity—whether in terms of time, finances, or a genuine desire for learning—I strongly endorse pursuing a course at the University of Oxford. The experience of being affiliated with such a prestigious institution is truly exceptional, and I am certain that the journey will be immensely rewarding.'
