Salvatore D'Addio

Salvatore D’Addio graduated in Telecommunication Engineering from the University of Naples in 2005 and received a master degree in Satellite Systems and Services from the University of Rome in 2006. He received the PhD in Electronics and Telecommunications Engineering from University of Benevento in 2017.

Salvatore is currently the Head of RF Payloads and Technology Division at the European Space Agency, addressing the research, design, development and testing of telecommunication payloads and sub-systems, microwave and millimetre wave remote sensing instruments, and navigation payloads exploiting analogue, digital and optical on-board technologies.

His interests cover technology developments as well as advanced on-board signal processing of payloads and microwave instruments based on active and phased array antennas and high speed digital signal processing.

In his career he has covered several technical and management roles related to radio frequency payloads and microwave instruments for satellite communication, earth observation and navigation applications.

Previously, among others, in the period 2013-2018, he has been Principal Instrument Engineer of the MicroWave Imager radiometer (MWI) within the MetOp-SG programme, managing technology pre-developments and managing overall activities for Phase B1 and Phase B2/C instrument design, development and testing.

He previously worked on design and development of optoelectronics sensors as well as on RF characterization and testing of 3G mobile terminals.
