For centuries Ireland was arguably Britain's 'Achilles heel'. We will examine why relations between Britain and Ireland deteriorated significantly from the late 18th century onwards, resulting finally in the first steps towards an independent Irish state.
Five British monarchs – Edward VII, George V, Edward VIII, George VI and Elizabeth II – were entrusted with the crown between 1901 - 2022. This course examines their lives and impact on Britain during the 20th and 21st centuries.
