Undergraduate history of art courses

Part-time undergraduate study

Our history of art programmes reflect Oxford’s exceptional richness in works of art, with museum and gallery spaces such as the Ashmolean and Modern Art Oxford right on hand.

Formal qualifications are not essential for either course - just enthusiasm for the subject and a high level of commitment and motivation.

Undergraduate Certificate in the History of Art

Our two-year part-time Undergraduate Certificate in the History of Art is equivalent to the first year of an undergraduate degree and offers an excellent introduction for students who want to develop their knowledge of art through structured study. You will learn more about how artworks are made, and receive an overview of the development of Western art from the classical period to the 20th century.

Undergraduate Diploma in the History of Art

The two-year part-time Undergraduate Diploma in the History of Art is equivalent to the second year of a full-time undergraduate degree. You study two modules from a choice of four, each of which allows you to immerse yourself in a specific period of art history, studying its developments in depth, and within the wider historical context.
