The Mozart String Quartets

Overview

Explore the timeless elegance and profound depth of Mozart's string quartets in this immersive day school – providing a comprehensive exploration of the quartets, shedding light on their historical context, compositional techniques, and enduring significance. We will embark on a journey through Mozart's creative evolution, tracing the development of his quartet writing from his early works to his later, more mature compositions.

Through in-depth analysis and guided listening, we will unravel the intricacies of Mozart’s quartets, delving into their thematic richness, harmonic and structural innovations. From the exuberant melodies of the 'Haydn Quartets' to the sublime beauty of the 'Prussian Quartets', each work offers a window into Mozart's musical genius and the cultural milieu of his time.

We will explore the collaborative nature of chamber music-making, examining the interplay between the four voices of the string quartet and the unique challenges and rewards it presents for performers.

Whether you're a seasoned classical music enthusiast or a newcomer to Mozart's repertoire, this day school promises to deepen your appreciation for the profound beauty and intellectual richness of Mozart's string quartets.

Please note: this event will close to enrolments at 23:59 UTC on 30 October 2024.
